The Western Hog-nosed Snake (Heterodon nasicus nasicus) is a small yellow-jawed snake native to North America. "Heterodon" means "mutated teeth"; "nasicus" means "nose". As the name suggests, the Western Hog-nosed Snake is a snake with posterior furrow teeth and a ridiculous (upturned) nose (snout).
The total length is about 60 cm. The body is slightly stubby and the snout is pointed and raised inward. There are brown markings juxtaposed along the center of the back. There are similar markings on the side of the body, and large continuous black markings on the abdomen.
